Handmade Braided Stair Treads, Sea Glass Rose Peacock Gradient Watercolor Fade Mats (Jute Border)

✦ HANDMADE IN INDIA: braided and stitched by hand in our family workshop in Jaipur, 35+ years of rug making.
✦ MATERIAL: natural jute border around a centre of chindi cotton, offcut strips of cotton fabric from garment workshops, braided by hand. Every mat gives waste fabric a second life.
✦ DESIGN: a three colour gradient with no hard line anywhere. The two colours braid together through the middle of each change, so the fade looks soft instead of striped.
✦ FLAT BRAIDED FACE: low and firm underfoot, no pile to crush, sits flat on the step.
✦ STYLE: soft modern, watercolour colour, a quiet staircase that still has colour in it.

WHICH WAY THE FADE FACES:
✦ The colour runs from green at one end to blue at the other, so each mat has a top and a bottom. Decide before you fit the first one whether green sits at the wall side or the open side, then lay every mat the same way up the flight. Photograph the first fitted step and match the rest to it.

HOW TO FIT:
✦ Measure the depth and width of your step. Leave bare wood on each side and keep the mat back from the nose of the step.
✦ Fix every mat with double-sided carpet tape or tread grips (sold separately). Never lay them loose.
✦ Curved or pie-shaped winder steps: message us first, we make these to your template.  

CARE:
✦ Vacuum without the beater bar
✦ Spot-clean with a damp cloth, do not soak
✦ Keep dry, air-dry flat
✦ Use a rug pad or carpet tape underneath

NOTES
1. Handmade, so small differences in size, shade and where the colours change are part of the piece.   
2. Jute sheds a little in the first weeks and a tiny end of fabric strip may show between braids. Vacuum the dust, trim the ends, never pull them.
3. The cotton centre takes a damp cloth for a small spot. The jute border does not: water on jute dries to a brown ring. Keep the border dry and blot spills at once. Dyed colour also lightens in strong daily sun. Indoor use only.
